Ray Barrow, 90, died on March 15, 2026, at home surrounded by loved ones. He was born February 7, 1936, in Poteau, Oklahoma, the son of Richard W. "Woody" and Annie (Johnson) Barrow.
Ray graduated from Waterford Township High School in Michigan in 1954. Ray served in the U.S. Army and was a Training Center Engineer. During his military service, he married Barbara A. Berridge, and they settled in Ortonville, Michigan. Ray and his father, Woody, owned and operated Woody and Ray's Marathon on M-15 in Ortonville. Upon retirement, Ray relocated to Bradenton, Florida, where he later met and married Pearl "Patt" Rose. Ray and Pearl have been members of the Northwest Baptist Church since 2007. Ray was also a member of the American Legion in Bradenton, Florida.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Ruth Williams, his son Raymond W. Barrow, his first wife Barbara A (Berridge) Barrow, and his stepson Joe Smith. Surviving in addition to his wife, Pearl "Patt" Barrow, are his daughter Valerie R. Bartkus and her husband William of Longboat Key, Florida, his son William A. Barrow and his wife Michelle of Ortonville, Michigan, stepchildren; Jerry Smith and his wife Mary, Jeff Smith and his wife Kathleen, Jim Smith, John Smith and his partner Nathan, and three grandchildren; Jason Shotwell and his wife Andrea, Richard "Ray" Barrow and his wife Cora, and Suzanna Barrow and her husband Mike Hebert, numerous step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A service of remembrance will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Northwest Baptist Church, 7913 9th Avenue NW, Bradenton, Florida. Interment will be at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Ray in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Northwest Baptist Church.
