Command Sergeant General Major Charles E. “Mac” McDonald, U.S. Army (Retired), passed away on March 31, 2026. He was born on October 9, 1928, in Flushing, New York.
CSGM McDonald honorably served his country for more than fifty years. He began his military career in the United States Marine Corps, serving during World War II and the Korean War. He was a proud member of the “Chosin Few,” having fought at the Chosin Reservoir. He later continued his service with the United States Army, serving in Berlin and completing three tours in Vietnam.
Throughout his distinguished career, CSGM McDonald received numerous valor awards, including three Purple Hearts and thirty-two additional citations for bravery and service. Following his active-duty service, he taught ROTC at Florida Southern College, continuing his lifelong commitment to developing future leaders. He retired in Bradenton, Florida, after more than five decades of government service.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Katherine Gibson‑McDonald; his son, Gregory McDonald, and daughter‑in‑law, Lori McDonald; and his grandchildren, Logan McDonald and Dr. Connor McDonald.
In accordance with Command Sergeant General Major McDonald’s wishes, no services will be held.
