Carl Ellis
Stonebraker
September 7, 1929 – June 8, 2026
Carl Ellis Stonebraker, 96, of Bradenton, FL passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026, at Tidewell Hospice.
He was born September 7, 1929, in Shadyside, Ohio to the late Bernard E. Stonebraker and Minnie Heskett Stonebraker. Carl was a graduate of Bethesda High School and attended Elliott Business School in Wheeling, WV. Married to his high school sweetheart, Nancy Morgan, in 1950, they would have celebrated 76 years of marriage on June 17th.
Carl retired from Consolidation Coal Company (Hanna Coal Company), where he worked for 38 years.
He and Nancy enjoyed many years traveling in their motor home and finally settled at Paradise Bay Mobile Home Park in Bradenton, FL, at which time they became snowbirds traveling back and forth from Ohio to Florida for many years. Unfortunately, in 2024, two hurricanes destroyed that paradise. They then became full-time Florida residents in September 2025, living in Village Green
Carl had been on the town council of the Village of Flushing, Ohio, and served as a member of the school boards for both Flushing and Union Local Schools. He was a volunteer docent for the National Imperial Glass Museum in Bellaire, Ohio, and was a member of Hazen Masonic Lodge in Bethesda, Ohio. He helped establish the Flushing Ruritan Club.
He loved being outside, feeding the birds, and doing yard work. Fall became the time to cheer on his favorite, The Ohio State University Buckeyes, football and then basketball.
Carl was a member of St. Clairsville Church of Christ in Ohio and attended Westside Christian Church in Bradenton, Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; three children, Kathleen (Dennis) Green of St. Clairsville, Ohio; Carol Bethel of Bradenton, FL; and Bill (Robin) Stonebraker of Bradenton, FL. Three grandchildren: Jennifer Fetzer, Clark Green, and Daniel Bethel. Also, three great-grandchildren, Morgan Fetzer, Evan Fetzer, and Rylie Green. A sister, Luella Copeland of Barnesville, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.
His request was cremation and no service, with a later celebration of life for the family to include his favorite homemade ice cream.
Covell Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Bradenton, Florida are in charge of arrangements.
